DJI stops supporting third-party app development for iOS and recommends moving to Android

Historically, software developers have favoured iOS over other operating systems. But there are exceptions. For example, DJI is encouraging developers to switch to Android.

Here's What We Know

DJI, which is the market leader in civilian quadcopters, stops supporting the development of third-party applications for iOS and iPadOS. The Chinese company has officially confirmed that it no longer supports the iOS Software Development Kit (SDK).

The change came into effect on 29 November 2023. DJI now suggests that drone app developers should focus on the Android operating system, for which SDK support will continue.

The decision is probably related to US sanctions. US authorities have been fighting against DJI for several years, claiming that the Chinese company has ties to the Communist Party of China.

The withdrawal of iOS SDK support will not affect ordinary users much. Yes, they won't be able to use third-party apps to control their drones, but official DJI products from the AppStore won't go anywhere.
