McDonald's is testing a plant-based McPlant burger in the USA

It looks like gg editorial predictions are coming true. McDonald's is preparing to bring a plant-based burger, developed with Beyond Meat, to market for a trial run in several restaurants. McPlant is expected to have the "iconic" taste of the McDonald's hamburger with all its merits, although the company has remained silent on a broader market rollout for now.

Like other fast-food giants Burger King and KFC in recent years, McDonald's is eager to expand its menu with plant-based dishes exclusively, and in 2019 the restaurant began testing its first such offering in Europe and Canada.

The McPlant patty to be served in the upcoming U.S. trials is made from plant-based ingredients, including peas, rice and potatoes. It will traditionally be served on a sesame seed bun, along with tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and a slice of cheese.

As it turns out, McDonald's has already tested McPlant in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and the United Kingdom. According to the company, these small-scale trials will help it assess how plant-based patties can be integrated into kitchen operations. The company says it will provide expanded and updated information after the trials.
