Sony Xperia 1 IV fails the DxOMark camera test, falling behind even iPhone 13 mini, with the $1599 smartphone coming in 51st place

DxOMark followed the flagship Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra by testing the Sony Xperia 1 IV's camera. The Japanese company's smartphone is ranked at the Top 6 in the ranking of the best camera phones.

Here's What We Know

The Sony Xperia 1 IV's main camera features three 12 MP modules. The smartphone has optical image stabilisation and can record 4K views at 24/25/30/60/120 FPS with HDR support.

The DxOMark lab lists exposure, level of detail, depth of field, background blur and optical stabilisation performance as strengths. Weaknesses include limited dynamic range, the appearance of artifacts, unnatural skin tone and poor white balance during video recording.

Despite the relatively good results overall, the 2022 flagship took only 51st place with a score of 118 points. It managed to lose 1 point to the Xperia 5 IV model. Not only that, even the iPhone 13 mini and Pixel 6a were higher. The latter, including discounts, is priced at $300.

DxOMark is targeting US prices, so the site lists the Sony Xperia 1 IC at $1599. Only the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 and Galaxy Fold 4 ($1799 each) are more expensive than it in the ranking, which includes more than a hundred smartphones.
