Ukraine's defence forces have seized Russia's newest modernised T-72B3 tank of the 2022 model at a cost of $3 million

An upgraded Russian tank may enter service with the Ukrainian Defence Forces in the coming months. The Ukrainian military has captured a T-72B3 of the 2022 model.

Here's What We Know

The Russian tank was captured by soldiers of the 15th brigade "Kara-Dag" of the National Guard of Ukraine. The video shows that there is an on-board computer installed inside the combat vehicle to control all systems, for which the driver-mechanic is responsible.

The T-72B3 is an economy version of Russia's most advanced tank, the T-90M Breakthrough. The $3 million combat vehicle has been modernised several times. The 2022 model version has a 1PN-96MT-02 gunner's sight and a reduced resolution infrared camera.

The tank received Contact-1 units in addition to Contact-5 dynamic protection. It is worth noting that the Contact-5 modules were integrated in the 2016 upgrade, which also brought the 2A46M-5-01 gun, automated gearbox, thermal imager and B-92C2F engine.
