500 drones put on a spectacular light show in New York City for the anniversary of the mobile game Candy Crush

Residents of New York City the other day could watch a spectacular light show of drones.

Here's What We Know

The drone show was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the mobile game Cundy Crash, which celebrates its 10th birthday. The choreographed performance lasted 10 minutes. It featured 500 drones equipped with lighting equipment.

Senator Brad Hoylman spoke negatively about the performance. He called the show outrageous and offensive to New York City residents, wildlife, laws and public safety. Critics also point out that New York City already has a lot of light pollution without such commercials. In addition, having five hundred glowing UAVs in the sky can negatively affect migratory birds.

The event itself took place not over the city, but over the Hudson River. This is due to a number of restrictions on drone flights over New York City. The show was visible to everyone within a 1.5 km radius of Battery Park.

Shows like this have not been unusual for a long time. Especially in China. Last year, Genesis (a subsidiary of Hyundai) celebrated its entry into the Chinese market with a light show with 3,821 drones, which was a world record.
