On the morning of September 20, 2023, an unknown drone struck an oil depot in Sochi. As a result of the impact, a tank with fuel exploded.

Here's What We Know

The drone struck an oil depot in the Adler district of Sochi at around 22:00 (EDT) or 19:00 (PDT). The fact of the attack was officially confirmed by local authorities. After the attack, the mayor of the city arrived at the fuel and lubricants warehouse.

As a result of the explosion, a fire started, covering an area of more than 100 square metres. According to local authorities, the fire was eliminated in a few hours. Local media say that the UAV destroyed a tank with 1200 tonnes of diesel fuel. A few videos from the scene can be seen below.

The distance from the front line in Ukraine to Sochi through the occupied territories and the sea is more than 500 kilometres. It is possible that the drone was launched from the Black Sea or even from the territory of the Russian Federation.
