China's restrictions on exports of UAVs and equipment have made it difficult to supply drones to Russia and created a shortage of drones weighing 4kg or more

In September, the Russian Federation started experiencing problems with drone deliveries from China. The reason is the export restrictions that were introduced on 1 September 2023 by the Chinese authorities.

Here's What We Know

The restrictions became known back in the summer. China decided to strengthen export control over drones and equipment for their production. Such actions were related to the desire of the authorities to strengthen national security.

This led to problems with the supply of UAVs to Russia. Now there is a shortage of different types of drones weighing from 4kg in the country. To export drones, a supplier must get permission from the Chinese authorities, proving that the UAV will not be used for military purposes.

The Russians are trying to solve the problem through parallel imports. However, transit countries, in particular Kazakhstan, are tightening the import procedure.
