The Ukrainian Defense Ministry conducted a space reconnaissance using the ICEYE satellite and detected 2,600 units of Russian military equipment, including tanks, anti-aircraft missile systems and the Iskander missile defense system

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine told how it used the ICEYE satellite for space radar reconnaissance.

Here's What We Know

This summer Serhiy Prytula's Charitable Foundation announced the purchase of the satellite and a one-year subscription, which gives access to a database of images from the ICEYE constellation of satellites. This allows for near real-time imagery from the satellite.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine 150 Russian military positions on the territory of Russia and its allies (probably Belarus) were reconnaissance using the satellite. As a result, the Ukrainian army learned the location of approximately 2,600 units of enemy equipment.

These include S-300 surface-to-air missile systems, Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile launchers, tanks, self-propelled artillery systems, boats and Iskander operational and tactical missile systems.

It is worth noting that the purchase of the ICEYE satellite paid for itself a few months ago. And it took only two days. Alexey Reznikov, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, announced about it in the end of September. The cost of the spacecraft and subscription was $20 million.
