"MacGyver's Army": For the liberation of Snake Island the AFU came up with a clever trick with French Caesar guns - NYT

The New York Times in its new article about the war in Ukraine shared new information about the successful operations of the Ukrainian military - in particular, about the liberation of Snake Island in the summer of 2022.

Here's What We Know

Earlier it was reported that the operation with Snake Island lasted more than 2 months. In order to achieve a "goodwill gesture" and the escape of the Russian occupants, the AFU destroyed 20 units of Russian equipment totaling $900 million during this time.

According to The New York Times, French Caesar self-propelled artillery units were used for this purpose, among others. However, their range is a maximum of 40 kilometers, and the positions of the Russian troops on the island were 50 kilometers away.

For this purpose, the Ukrainian defenders came up with a cunning move: they installed Caesars on barges, which were sailing within 10 km of the shore, and thus shelled the enemy positions.

Journalists note that the AFU in NATO is called "the army of MacGyver," which is a reference to the old television series, in which the hero is inventive and improvises with everything that comes to hand.

"Ukraine also sank the Moskva, the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, with its own adapted missiles, and has built drones that can attack ships at sea", the publication adds.
