Germany will give Ukraine 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks to form tank battalion with Portugal and Sweden

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive more tanks from Germany than expected. This was announced by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.

Germany originally promised to send 14 Leopard 2 level A6 tanks to Ukraine. This was announced late last month. However, the head of the defence ministry said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would receive 18 combat vehicles.

The reason for increasing the number of tanks is the desire to create a battalion of 31 Leopard 2A6 tanks. In addition to Germany, Portugal will donate 3 tanks. Sweden will also provide 10 Stridsvagn 122 tanks.

In addition to the Leopard 2A6 tanks, Ukraine will receive A4 tanks. 14 Polish tanks have already arrived in Ukraine. Further deliveries of Leopard 2A4s from Spain, Canada and Norway are expected.
