Ukrainian Armed Forces show video of combat operation of rare 2S22 Bogdana self-propelled 155mm howitzer

The Ukrainian Defence Forces have demonstrated how the 2S22 Bogdana wheeled howitzer works. It is the first self-propelled artillery unit produced in Ukraine with a calibre of 155mm.

Here's What We Know

Development began in 2016. Bogdana uses the KrAZ-63221 chassis with an armoured cab. A 155mm cannon is installed in the rear of the fighting vehicle. According to the developers, the artillery system can hit targets at a distance of more than 40km. As part of tests carried out in early 2022, it managed to achieve a range of 42 km.

KrAZ-63221 truck with 6x6 wheel configuration weighs 28 tonnes and is equipped with an engine rated at 400 hp. It can reach up to 80 km/h on highway and 30 km/h on rough terrain. It has a maximum range of 1,000 km.

It is currently unknown how many 2S22 Bogdana units are in the arsenal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the beginning of 2023, Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that a new batch of self-propelled howitzers would go to the front "in a few months".

Last year, the howitzer took part in the liberation of Snake Island in the Black Sea. Bogdana, together with CAESAR, carried out artillery strikes against Russian troop positions.
