Ukrainian assault squad destroyed Russian upgraded T-80BVM tank

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed Russia's newest T-80BVM tank. The fighting vehicle is an upgrade of the T-80 and was developed in 2017-2018, with production starting in 2019.

Here's What We Know

We recently wrote about how a Ukrainian drone with a homemade ammunition was able to finish off a T-80BVM in the Donetsk region. This time, the tank was destroyed by 5th Brigade's assault squad using an anti-tank missile system.

The combat vehicle was detected by a reconnaissance drone. The tank was destroyed during the night and during the day Ukrainian soldiers used a drone to make sure the T-80BVM was beyond repair.

According to Oryx analysts, the Russian army has lost at least 82 T-80BVM tanks since February 24, 2022, including 3 units of the 2022 model. Many of the combat vehicles were not destroyed but captured and are now in service with the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The T-80BVM is fitted with a GTD-1000T propulsion system. The engine has a power of 1250 hp. The upgrade has brought the Relikt dynamic protection and the Sosna-U sight, borrowed from the T-72B3.
