France to transfer SCALP long-range cruise missiles with a launch range of more than 250 kilometres to Ukraine

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will soon receive long-range missiles from France. This was announced by President Emmanuel Macron during the NATO summit in Lithuania on 11 July.

Here’s What We Know

The French President did not specify what kind of missiles we are talking about, but it is clear that SCALP. This is the French name for the Storm Shadow cruise missile.

The carriers of SCALP and Storm Shadow are Tornado, Mirage 2000, Rafale and Typhoon aircraft. The Ukrainian Air Force was able to adapt the missile for the Su-24 bomber using pylons from British Tornado fighters.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces have been actively using Storm Shadow since the spring when it was transferred from the UK. The missiles can hit targets over 250 kilometres away, enough to strike Russian targets deep behind the front line.
