Turkey may buy Russian Su-35 fighters if the U.S. blocks the sale of F-16 Fighting Falcon

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan again threatens to buy Russian fighter jets if the U.S. blocks the sale of its planes.

Here's What We Know

According to Erdoğan, the United States is not the only fighter jet seller on the planet. It is possible to buy the planes from Britain, France or Russia if the U.S. refuses to sell its F-16 Block 70/72 to General Dynamics.

The most likely alternative to the American fighters are Russian planes Su-35. This is connected with the fact that Britain is unlikely to want to spoil relations with the United States by selling Eurofighter Typhoon. The delivery of the Dassault Rafale threatens France's friendly relations with Greece.

For that reason, Russian jets can be considered the most realistic option. In addition, there was information in 2021 that Turkey had agreed with Russia to buy 36 Su-35 fighter jets. But neither state confirms this.
