The French army plans to modernize more than a hundred Leclerc tanks within three years.

Here's What We Know

The French Army Army currently has 222 Leclerc main battle tanks. By 2025, France wants 122 tanks upgraded to Scorpion standard. What will happen to the remaining combat vehicles is not yet known.

The upgraded tanks will get XLR index and keep the current main armament. In particular, the cannon CN 120-26. At the same time a remotely controlled combat module equipped with a 7.62 mm machine gun will appear on the turret of the upgraded tank.

The Leclerc XLR will have improved armor. There will be anti-battery shields on the stern and rear, and dynamic protection blocks will be installed at the front.

The combat vehicle will also get a new information and command system to exchange information with the Scorpion armored vehicles. Inside the Leclerc XLR is a state-of-the-art display for gunner and commander.
