Instead of French CAESARs: Colombia will buy Israeli ATMOS 155-mm self-propelled artillery systems based on Tatra chassis
The Colombian Defense Ministry has decided to purchase the 155-mm ATMOS self-propelled artillery units from the Israeli company Elbit Systems.
Here's What We Know
The information was shared by Defense News, citing its sources. We are talking about 18 units worth $ 101,700,000. Interestingly, many military analysts and experts originally said that Colombia would buy the CAESAR SAU from the French company Nexter, but it seems that the contract has not been signed.
ATMOS is an Israeli 155mm self-propelled artillery gun that is built on the basis of a Tatra T815 VVN 6x6 chassis. The gun is designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries and bunkers and to provide openings in minefields and field barriers. The machine weighs 22 tons and is operated by a crew of 4-6 people. Depending on the projectiles ATMOS can shoot up to 41 km.
