Boeing gets $1.6bn to service Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced that Boeing has allocated more than $1.5 billion to provide maintenance for Minuteman III missiles.

Here's What We Know

The contract runs until February 1, 2039. Boeing will receive $1.6bn and the work will be carried out at US Air Force Base Hill in Utah. The company will handle support for the guidance subsystem.

The Minuteman III is an intercontinental ballistic missile that can carry a nuclear warhead. In September 2022, the US Department of Defense conducted a scheduled test in which the missile flew 4,200 miles (6,760 km) and fell into the sea off the Marshall Islands.

It is worth noting that the Minuteman III is the only intercontinental ballistic missile in the US nuclear arsenal. The launch pits are located on military bases in three states: Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota.
