US approves $619 million sale of 300 AGM-88B HARM and AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles to Taiwan for F-16 fighters

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has approved the sale of 300 missiles to Taiwan for the fourth generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. They will enhance Taiwan's ability to provide airspace defence and security in the region.

Here's What We Know

The United States State Department has said the sale of the missiles is in line with the Taiwan Relations Act and the One China Policy. It recognises the existence of only one state called China.

The contract value is $619 million, with the sale of 100 AGM-88B High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM) and 200 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM). In addition, Taiwan will receive training missiles and additional equipment.
