Germany wants to spend €3.05bn on civilian Airbus H145M helicopters to phase out Tiger attack helicopters

The German defence ministry is looking for ways to get rid of the Tiger attack helicopters. One option is to buy the H145M from Airbus.

Here's What We Know

The sticking point is that the Airbus H145M is a civilian helicopter. The Ministry of Defence wants to spend €3.05bn to buy 82 aircraft, 24 of which will be equipped with anti-tank missiles.

The Airbus H145M is approved for military use but is not intended for combat operations. The German armed forces believe the decision to replace 51 Tiger helicopters with 82 Airbus H145Ms is political. The Bundeswehr has concerns about the combat effectiveness and crew protection, but the Defence Ministry is ignoring its comments.
