The US wants to integrate Iron Dome surface-to-air missile systems into the country's missile defence system. Experts from Israel will help them in this.

Here's What We Know

The US Army has purchased two batteries of Iron Dome surface-to-air missile systems. The purpose of the purchase is to provide protection against cruise missiles. However, no additional orders will follow. One of the reasons is the reluctance of Israel to disclose the source code. In addition, the USA is developing its own projects.

Without the software code, Iron Dome cannot be fully integrated into the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS). Without it, the Israeli surface-to-air missile system will remain a niche solution. That said, there are workarounds for integrating Iron Dome into the Combat Command System, without using Israeli source code.

On the other hand, Moshe Patel, head of the Israeli Missile Defense Organization, said that he believes that the restrictions on information exchange between the two states have already been removed. He made the statement at an event organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Moshe Patel added that Israel will help integrate Iron Dome into ISBS. In addition, two batteries of anti-aircraft missile systems have already been deployed.

Iron Dome's final fate in the US is yet to be determined, which Rafael, which is the manufacturer of the surface-to-air missile systems, believes that the system will be a success. Meanwhile, the US is developing the Enduring Shield system as part of the Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc 2) programme. The launcher will use Raytheon's AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles.
