India test-fires next-generation ballistic missile Agni Prime with a launch range of up to 2,000 km

This week, India tested a next-generation ballistic missile of the Agni family. It is called the Agni Prime or Agni-P.

Here's What We Know

The ballistic missile was launched from Abdul Kalam Island. The Indian Ministry of Defence has not disclosed details of the test, but notes that the test was successful in achieving all its objectives.

It was the debut launch of the Agni Prime, which took place after the weapon development phase had been completed. India's defence establishment is now preparing to accept the ballistic missile for service.

The Agni Prime, can hit enemy targets at a maximum distance of 2,000 km. India is also working on an Agni-VI intercontinental ballistic missile with a launch range of up to 12,000 km.
