Chinese Woman Had Been Writting Fake History of Russia on Wikipedia for 12 Years

A Chinese woman with the name Zhemao (most likely a pseudonym) had been writing fake materials about the history of Russia in the Chinese version of Wikipedia since 2010.

What is known

A resident of the Celestial Empire has created her own alternative history of Russia. Somewhere we have already seen this, but now about something else. She invented characters and events about which she wrote long articles. They were discovered by the Chinese science fiction writer Yifan.

He noticed information about a silver mine in Kashin, which was opened in the Tver principality, as stated in the article. The writer wanted to know more about it. It turned out that the material in the article has nothing to do with the sources cited by the author. Later, Yifan found out that the characters from the Chinese Wikipedia were not in the Russian or English versions of the online library.

Wikipedia conducted its own investigation and found that since 2010, Zhemao has written more than 200 articles and edited hundreds of articles by other authors. The woman intertwined her stories with alternative history. She created four fake accounts that verified each other's articles.

Wikipedia has already removed half of the materials of the Chinese writer. The rest are under review. All fake Zhemao accounts are also disabled. At the same time, it is noted that at least one fictional article was included in the Russian, English and Romanian versions of Wikipedia.
