The United States has agreed to sell fighters, engines and ammunition to the German Defense Ministry.

What is known

The United States will sell 35 fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets along with 37 Pratt & Whitney F135-PW-100 engines. Germany will also receive nearly 200 advanced missiles: 105 AIM-120C-8 air-to-air missiles and 75 AGM158B/B2 air-to-surface cruise missiles.

The F-35 fighters will replace the German Tornado fighters, which are nearing the end of their service life. The State Department stressed that the delivery of the fighters will support the national security of the United States by strengthening the defense capabilities of the NATO ally.
