SpaceX withdrew its request for state funding for Starlink in Ukraine

Late last week, CNN reported that SpaceX had submitted a request to the U.S. Department of Defense for government funding for Starlink in Ukraine in September. A few days later, Elon Musk changed his mind.

Here's What We Know

On the evening of October 15 the American billionaire and SpaceX CEO wrote on Twitter that the company would continue to finance satellite internet in Ukraine despite the loss of money. SpaceX itself estimates that the service will cost $400 million next year.

On October 17 Politico website published a piece saying that the U.S. Department of Defense will consider funding Starlink from the USAI fund, as satellite internet is critical to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

However, on the evening of October 17, Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that his company has withdrawn its request for state funding. The head of SpaceX also added that 25,300 satellite Internet terminals had been sent to Ukraine, but the company only received money for 10,630 terminals.
