The Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a rare Russian Orion drone, believed to be a Bayraktar TB2 analogue

The Ukrainian military was able to destroy an Orion reconnaissance strike drone.

Here's What We Know

The drone, developed by the Russian company Kronshtadt, was shot down in the Kherson region on December 20 by Ukrainian anti-aircraft units. This was reported by the press service of the operational command "South."

"Orion" is a rare unmanned aerial vehicle. Since February 24, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed to destroy only three drones. The first was shot down back in the spring, and the second had to wait until mid-November. It is possible that Russia has lost more of these drones, but there has been no official confirmation.

The Orion is 8 meters long and has a wingspan of 16 meters. The drone is capable of carrying payloads weighing up to 180 kg. The drone has a range of 250 km and can fly without landing for 24 hours with a payload of no more than 60 kg. Cruising speed is 120-200 km/h.
