Samsung raises cost of 3D NAND flash memory by 10% after Apple and other companies refuse to cooperate with Chinese YMTC

Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp. (YMTC), China's largest memory chip maker, came under U.S. sanctions last week. Very quickly this began to have an impact on the market.

Here's What We Know

Not wanting to fall under sanctions, Apple was one of the first to end its partnership with YMTC. The Cupertino company was buying 3D NAND memory for its smartphones aimed at the Chinese market. Other electronics manufacturers followed Apple's example.

This led to an increase in demand for 3D NAND chips from other companies. Specifically, SK Hynix, Micron and Samsung. According to DigiTimes, the latter has already raised the price of 3D NAND modules by 10% amid a surge in demand.

At this point, it is difficult to say how Samsung's rise in memory chip costs will affect the market and the cost of devices that use 3D NAND. It is possible that other players will also start to raise prices, because in recent months memory chips have only gotten cheaper.
