The U.S. imposed sanctions on China's largest memory chip maker YMTC

The Chinese company Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp. (YMTC) has fallen under U.S. sanctions. This threatens it with withdrawal from the 3D NAND memory market.

Here's What We Know

The United States has dealt a new sanctions blow to Chinese technology companies. This week the "black list" was replenished with 36 firms, the most famous of which is the YMTC, the largest Chinese manufacturer of memory chips.

YMTC was hit because of violations of U.S. sanctions against Huawei. The "black list" has found a place for a subsidiary of YMTC, which is based in Japan. The loss of access to the U.S. technology can force the manufacturer to leave the market of 3D NAND memory, as competitors can move far ahead.

In addition, the restrictions will affect several other major players in the Celestial technology sector. These include Tiandy (surveillance cameras), Cambricon (chips for AI solutions), Shanghai Micro Electronics Equipment Group and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (communications equipment, military software).
