What is going on here? YouTuber replaces the faces of characters in The Last of Us Part II with characters from Super Mario Bros.

YouTuber Speclizer, who mainly creates content for The Last of Us, decided to replace the faces of the characters in the opening scene of Part 2 with characters from the Super Mario Bros. franchise.

Here's What We Know

Joel got the face of Mario, his brother Tommy, which is quite logical, became Luigi, and Ellie turned into Princess Peach. It's quite canonical, given the fact that Mario and Luigi are brothers, just like Joel and Tommy in The Last of Us. Only Mario rescues the princess, and Joel saves Ellie.

However, the faces that Speclizer put on them look more like cheap horror on Steam, which makes the situation more absurd. And from time to time, you can even hear phrases addressed to Mario behind the scenes.

It is not known whether the author plans to do something else similar, but it is scary to imagine what mods we will see when The Last of Us Part I is released on PC on 28 March.
