To replace AS-90s to be handed over to Ukraine: UK to buy state-of-the-art Archer armoured turrets from BAE Systems

The UK is set to buy advanced 155mm Archer self-propelled artillery units from BAE Systems.

The information was shared by the publication Shephard. We are talking about 6-8 units. The contract for the purchase of the UK and Sweden will be signed in the near future. The Archer SAUs will replace the AS-90s in the British army, which will be sent to Ukraine. Incidentally, Not just CV90 BMPs: Sweden will transfer Archer self-propelled artillery units to Ukraine. Sweden has promised to transfer 12 units to the Armed Forces.

Flashback

Archer is a modern Swedish 155mm self-propelled artillery unit based on Volvo A30D 6×6 chassis. It is designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries, bunkers, as well as to provide passageways in minefields and field barriers. The SAU is operated by 3-4 men. It is capable of engaging targets at ranges up to 60 km (with Excalibur rounds). In 3.5 minutes Archer can fire over 21 rounds.
