It's official: Sweden gives Ukraine 8 advanced Archer self-propelled artillery units, capable of firing more than 21 rounds in 3.5 minutes

We have already written more than once that Sweden plans to transfer the Archer SAU to Ukraine. The country's government has now officially confirmed this and also told us how many guns the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive.

Here's What We Know

According to the country's Defence Ministry, Ukraine will receive 8 self-propelled artillery systems. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to use two of them as donors for repairs. Unfortunately the Government of Sweden does not say when the deliveries of the SAUs will start. By the way, together with the Archer SAU, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will also receive 10 Swedish Stridsvagn 122 tanks (the upgraded version of the Leopard 2A5) and spare parts for the HAWK air defence systems.

Flashback

The Archer is a modern Swedish 155mm self-propelled artillery unit based on a Volvo A30D 6×6 chassis. It is designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries, bunkers, as well as to provide passages in minefields and field barriers. The SAU is operated by 3-4 men. It is capable of engaging targets at ranges up to 60 km (with Excalibur rounds). In 3.5 minutes Archer can fire over 21 rounds.
