OPPO will no longer develop its own processors

Huawei was equipping its flagship smartphones with Kirin chips developed by its HiSilicon subsidiary before US sanctions were imposed. OPPO wanted to follow the same path, but circumstances did not work out.

Here's What We Know

About four years ago, OPPO announced the launch of a new division called Zeku. It specialized in developing processors for smartphones, similar to the already mentioned HiSilicon and Apple Silicon, which creates chips for the iPad, iPhone and Mac.

The company has been granted hundreds of patents over the years, some of which have been related to semiconductors. About two years later, we saw a very interesting product, the MiriSilicon X. It is an image processor that was used in OPPO's flagship smartphones.

Due to a reduction in shipments by almost a third by 2022, the Chinese company decided to look for ways to cut costs. It was the division that specialised in the development of processors that suffered.
