NASA engineers began work on a new rover Mars 2020

NASA engineers have started creating a new rover Mars 2020. The device will go to the Red Planet in 2020, will receive a number of innovations and tasks to search for extraterrestrial life.

Features

The size of the Martian transport corresponds to the terrestrial cars. Without taking into account the manipulator arm, the length of the rover is 3 meters, the width is 2.7 meters, and the height is 2.2 meters. The weight of the Mars 2020 is 1050 kilograms. This is 150 kg more than the weight of the famous rover Curiosity.

The main task of Mars 2020 is the search for signs of life on Mars. In addition, the apparatus explores the geological state of the planet, analyzes the composition of the atmosphere and searches for any biological remains. On the rover will install a special device that will try to extract oxygen from the atmosphere. Another device will take stone and soil fences.

Parts and Assembly

Details for the new rover were ordered all over the world. Among the producer countries are Spain, France and Norway. Some of the components are manufactured in different US states. Collect Mars 2020 will be at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. It is expected that this process will take a year and a half.

Start

The new rover will go to the Red Planet in July 2020. The launch will take place with the help of the Atlas-5 launch vehicle. The exact landing site of the Mars 2020 has not yet been selected. Among the candidates are part of the Great Sirt volcano, the Jaezero crater or the Gusev crater.
