Leap Motion showed AR-interface in the style of Iron Man

Recently Leap Motion announced an experimental platform for the augmented reality of Project North Star, and in a new demo, the developers showed a futuristic interface reminiscent of the Tony Stark 3D hologram aka Iron Man from the Marvel universe.

What was shown?

This is another version of the interactive menu floating in the air. Something similar we saw in Microsoft HoloLens glasses, but Leap Motion's motion tracking technology makes interaction with virtual elements more natural. For example, the user can easily drag the "windows" and anchor them in the surrounding space, like regular stickers on the board. The developed system "sees" when the hand is in front or behind the object. The part of the interface covered by the palm is hidden, creating the impression of working with a volume hologram. I must admit that the Iron Man turned out to be a little better:

What kind of helmet?

AR-helmet Leap Motion is equipped with two displays with a resolution of 1600x1400 pixels each and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. They are located on the sides, and the image is reflected from the transparent visor. The vertical viewing angle is as much as 95 degrees, and the horizontal angle is 70 degrees. So far, this is the best result for augmented (or mixed) reality devices. Hand movements are tracked in a 180x180 degree field. The above is the final version, and the first prototypes looked like this:

According to the team, with mass production, the cost of such a gadget will be about $ 100, however, no one is going to do it. Yes, those who wish can use the reference design, but for Leap Motion the main goal of the project is to promote the tracking system of hand movements. The company does not plan to create a competitor HoloLens or Magic Leap One .
