Apple will allow you to stay on iOS 17 with security updates

Apple has confirmed that iOS 18 will be released on 16 September. The update will bring many new features, but some users may want to delay the upgrade to avoid potential bugs or compatibility issues with important apps. Therefore, Apple will allow you to stay on iOS 17 and receive only security patches.

Here's What We Know

Along with the release of iOS 18.0 RC (the final version before the official launch) to the public, Apple has released a new version of iOS 17.7 RC for developers and beta testers. This update does not add any new features, but contains security patches and bug fixes for iOS 17.

iOS 17.7 and iOS 18.0 will be available simultaneously in the Settings app on iPhone and iPad. Users will be able to choose whether to stay on iOS 17 with the latest security patches or upgrade to iOS 18 with new features. It is worth noting that Apple has already provided this option before.

Last year, Apple continued to release security patches for iOS 16 even after the launch of iOS 17, but eventually these updates were only available for devices that could not upgrade to iOS 17. Since iOS 18 supports all iOS 17-compatible iPhones, it is likely that support for iOS 17 will end in a few months.

In addition to iOS 18, Apple will also unveil iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, visionOS 2, and macOS Sequoia next week on 16 September.
