Amidst the chaos caused by the Los Angeles wildfires, false rumours are spreading in the media about the possible cancellation of the 97th Academy Awards, scheduled for 2 March.

Here's What We Know

The Hollywood Reporter has spoken to the leaders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and found out that there is no plan to cancel the ceremony. The only body considering the situation is the 55-member board, which has confirmed that the date of the Oscars will remain unchanged.

Although some members of the board lost their homes in the fires, they decided to continue voting on the nominations and postponed the announcement of the nominees. It is important to note that any changes to the ceremony will require consultation with the Academy's partner ABC.

The Academy has stressed that it intends to hold the ceremony with dignity and use it to raise funds to help those affected by the fires. The Oscars have never been cancelled, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
