Shuhei Yoshida: I'd oppose Sony's focus on game services

Former PlayStation studio head Shuhei Yoshida has given his opinion on Sony's strategy with game services, saying that if he were still in office, he would try to resist the trend. Yoshida, who worked at Sony for 31 years, helped launch the original PlayStation and served as president of Worldwide Studios from 2008 to 2019.
Here's What We Know
In his first interview after leaving the company, Yoshida shared his thoughts on various topics, including the reasons for the failure of the PS Vita and the absence of Bloodborne on PS5. He noted that Sony had ambitious plans to release 12 games with services on PS5 by 2026, but cancelled half of them due to significant difficulties.
"I would try to resist pressure from Sony's management to create more games in this lucrative but risky genre," he said.
In addition, Yoshida expressed his positive impressions of Helldivers 2, which became Sony's biggest success in the service game genre. "In this industry, you can't plan for success," he said.
Nevertheless, Sony is better off focusing on story-based games in the future.
