200MP periscopic telephoto lenses are becoming increasingly popular among Chinese smartphone manufacturers, after vivo introduced the X100 Ultra and then used the same module on the X200 Pro.

Here's What We Know

Among the five super-flagships planned for release this year in China, three of them will have 200MP cameras. This has become a trend in the market, and now it is known that Samsung may also join this.

According to new information from an insider at Digital Chat Station, the Korean company has started evaluating the use of a 200MP periscopic telephoto camera with a 1/1.5-inch sensor, which is slightly smaller than the 1/1.4-inch sensor used by vivo in its models. If Samsung decides to use this sensor, the new camera could appear in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is scheduled for release next year.

Some sources also suggest that the smartphone could be called the S26 Note, which would expand the company's smartphone lineup.

This would be a major step for Samsung to compete with other manufacturers who have already introduced such a powerful camera. Given the popularity of 200MP cameras on the market, the Galaxy S26 Ultra would likely be one of the most powerful smartphones on the market in 2026, compared to other companies' flagships such as vivo's early 2024 launch. As they say, better late than never.

However, there is a possibility that these rumours will not be confirmed and the company may decide to abandon this step. It's still very much in the early stages of S26 Ultra development right now, and any decision is subject to change before the official announcement.
