Meta has admitted that there is too much spam on Facebook. Now the company promises to take action against the most active offenders. In particular, it will reduce the reach of posts from authors who publish long and distracting captions or those that do not correspond to the content of the content itself.

Here's What We Know

These accounts will also lose monetisation. In addition, the company will crack down on accounts that create fake engagement through manipulation. This will include reducing the visibility of comments from such accounts and removing pages that try to artificially increase their reach.

Meta is also testing a new feature that will allow users to anonymously downgrade comments by marking them as "not useful". These changes are aimed at making Facebook more appealing to a younger audience, which is part of the company's strategy to update the platform.

However, in this update, Meta does not mention one of the most widespread forms of spam on Facebook over the past year - artificially generated content. We're talking about the so-called "AI slop" - meaningless, often illogical images that are mostly generated by artificial intelligence. They have no real value except to attract users' attention. Such content is often supported by Facebook's algorithms.

However, Meta notes that it is also working to support original content creators and crack down on accounts that steal other people's work. However, given how easy it is to create artificially generated content, it may not be easy to make significant progress in the fight against spam.
