Apple has confirmed that with the release of iOS 19, it will stop supporting the old version of the Home app. This means that users will need to update the app to avoid compatibility issues with Home app accessories after upgrading to the new version of the software.

Here's What We Know

The changes were introduced back in iOS 16.2, when Apple introduced a significant upgrade to its technology for HomeKit devices. These changes were supposed to improve the efficiency and reliability of the devices. However, unforeseen problems arose at the beginning, forcing Apple to postpone the update. The update reappeared in iOS 16.4, and since then, the system has been working stably. The use of the new version was voluntary.

Now, with iOS 19 approaching, Apple is urging users to update the app as support for the old version is being phased out. Users should update the app to avoid interruptions in accessories and automation. The update also brings new features such as guest access, robotic vacuums, and activity history, which are only available after the update.

How to update

To update the Home app, open the app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, go to Home settings, select Software Update, and click Update Now. If you have multiple homes, they will update all at once. After the update, you'll see a message: "This home and all accessories have been updated."

Support for the old version will end in the autumn of 2025, so users should update their system to avoid problems with the Home app after the release of iOS 19.
