The creative director of Borderlands 4 said that the game has been in development for 6 years - it is Gearbox Entertainment's largest project with a record budget for the studio

Gearbox Entertainment is officially calling Borderlands 4 its "biggest game ever" - from the massive universe to billions of variations of weapons and accessories. Although the gameplay has not yet been fully revealed, it is already clear that the project is impressive in scope.
Here's What We Know
In a recent Creator's Voice video dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2 version, creative director Randy Parnell said that development of the game began in 2019, immediately after the release of Borderlands 3. According to him, the team spent six years to fill the world of Borderlands with "grand adventures".
However, according to Kotaku, the game has not escaped difficulties: the studio has allegedly postponed other new projects and IPs, and restructured its management to focus exclusively on the fourth instalment. The game's budget is twice as big as its predecessor's, and the price can reach $80, so expectations are extremely high.
Where To Play
After the release, Borderlands will be available on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
When We Can Expect It
The game will be released on 12 September 2025.
