The director of The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw" may lead the adaptation of the legendary Gears of War shooter for Netflix

Netflix has finally moved forward with the long-awaited adaptation of the famous Gears of War shooter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director of The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw, Deadpool 2, and Bullet Train director David Leitch is in talks to direct the film, and John Spates, known for Dune, is writing the script.
Here's What We Know
Netflix acquired the rights to the Gears of War film adaptation more than two years ago, but only now has the project really accelerated. David Leitch, who became famous for dynamic blockbusters, may be the perfect choice to bring Microsoft's explosive shooter to the big screen. Kelly McCormick will produce the film alongside Litch, and The Coalition, the studio behind the series, will join the team.
The script was written by John Spates, who has experience working on large-scale sci-fi franchises, including Dune and Doctor Strange.
In addition to the feature film, Netflix plans to release an adult animated series based on Gears of War, which will be released after the film's premiere. If these projects are successful, the studio is ready to expand the Gears universe even further.
The main issue for fans is the actor to play Marcus Phoenix, the iconic hero of the series. Wrestler and actor Dave Batista has repeatedly publicly stated his desire to play this character and even received approval from one of the creators of Gears of War, Cliff Bleszinski.
