MSI Price Hike Alert: Gaming Laptops and GPUs to Surge by 30% Amid Memory Crisis
Gamers who planned to upgrade their PCs or purchase ready-made builds from MSI should immediately consider buying, as the Taiwanese company may significantly raise the cost of its products in just a couple of months.
Memory is worth its weight in gold
According to the Taiwanese Economic Daily, MSI management informed investors that in the face of a global crisis in the memory market, which is only gaining momentum, the company has no choice but to raise the cost of its products by 15-30%. This applies to laptops, desktops, portable consoles, and especially graphics cards.
MSI currently has only a two-month supply of DRAM chips, while Samsung and SK hynix are in no hurry to sign long-term contracts. This situation may shrink the PC market by 10-20% in 2026, according to co-founder and top manager Huang Jinqing.
Graphics cards at risk
MSI may significantly change its graphics card release strategy by reducing the production of Blackwell generation GPUs and focusing on premium modifications.
Against this background, the RTX 5050 may be at risk due to less significant profits, while the more powerful GeForce RTX 5070, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090, which are already expensive and have risen in price due to the crisis, may become even more expensive.
New plans for boards
According to the Taiwanese Economic Daily, MSI will try to bring back motherboards supporting the previous generation DDR4 memory to offer customers an alternative to the more expensive DDR5 memory, the price of which changes daily and is a real challenge to find on sale.
