In November 2025, Ubisoft and FX Network (Walt Disney Company) officially announced that they are working on an adaptation of the Far Cry shooter series.

At that time, it was also announced that the showrunner and director of the series will be Noah Hawley — the creator of the dramatic series “Fargo” and the series “Alien: Earth”, and actor Rob McElhenney (Mythic Quest, “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) will be a co-author and executive producer, as well as play one of the main roles.

It was stated that each season will tell separate stories with different characters and locations, but it remained unknown whether the authors will use the plots of Far Cry games, and now we have the answer.

What is known

In an interview with Deadline, Noah Hawley noted that he was attracted to creating the Far Cry series by the structure of the franchise itself, which practically every part of the series is a standalone work, unrelated to other games (with rare exceptions). This approach is close to the writer since he chose the anthology structure for the hit series “Fargo” and it proved to be the best.

During the preparation for filming, the director decided that there is no point in adapting any of the Far Cry games since their plots are long known, and major changes would make them completely different works. Instead, Hawley carefully analyzed the key features of the franchise and will try to use them to create a great series. Obviously, he should first pay attention to the charismatic antagonists, who, starting with Far Cry 3, are the most interesting element of the series.

Active preparation for filming Far Cry starts in the summer of 2026. Hawley stated that he will direct only the first two episodes of the series.

The premiere dates for Far Cry are not announced yet, but it is known that the series will be released on the Hulu streaming service.
