CMF by Nothing is launching the Clip Pro on August 4 — its first open-ear earbuds that clip onto the outer ear rather than sitting inside the canal. The move follows Nothing's broader shift toward wearables and AI accessories after stepping back from budget phones. For anyone eyeing Sony LinkBuds or Bose Ultra Open but balking at the price, this is worth watching.

The design

The Clip Pro uses an open-wearable stereo (OWS) format — a clip-on style that leaves your ear canal completely clear. That means you can hear traffic, conversations, and announcements without removing them, which is the main appeal of the category. Sony's LinkBuds Clip and Huawei's FreeClip (around $180) have been the go-to options in this space; Bose's Ultra Open sits even higher. CMF is expected to come in well under $100, which would make it the most affordable name-brand option in the segment.

Nothing's official CMF account confirmed the August 4 reveal date, and early teasers — initially cropped too tight to identify the product — have now clearly shown the clip-on earbud form factor.

Insider Yogesh Brar, who first flagged the product, noted the Clip Pro will include a suite of AI features, though specifics haven't been shared ahead of launch.

The competition

The open-ear segment is growing faster than any other wireless earbud category right now — per AppleInsider, open-ear earbuds are posting a 7.8% compound annual growth rate while traditional in-ear TWS sales are declining. CMF is stepping into that momentum at the budget end, which no major brand currently occupies.

The August 4 launch also lands squarely in back-to-school and fitness season — good timing for a product aimed at all-day comfort and outdoor use.

What's next

CMF isn't stopping at the Clip Pro. According to Smartprix, Nothing is also planning full-size next-generation headphones and a smart speaker by mid-September. Brar separately reported that Nothing's first smartwatch is also in the pipeline. Full pricing and US/UK availability for the Clip Pro will be confirmed at launch via nothing.tech.
