Citizen adds a brown dial option to its solar-powered Rolan watch
Citizen has quietly expanded its Rolan collection with a new brown colourway, and it's available to buy right now. The AW2113-16X pairs a brown metal dial with a matching leather strap and a rose gold-tone stainless steel case — a warmer look than the existing blue, black, pink, and mother-of-pearl variants. At £199 direct from Citizen UK, it sits at the more accessible end of the solar dress-watch market.
The watch
The Rolan AW2113-16X is a three-hand dress watch built around a 41mm case, which puts it in mainstream wrist-size territory — not oversized, not dainty. The dial is protected by mineral crystal rather than sapphire, which is typical at this price point. Water resistance is rated to 50 metres (5 bar), enough to survive rain, hand-washing, and a splash in the pool.
The movement is Citizen's Eco-Drive, the brand's long-running solar technology. A thin panel sits beneath the dial and converts any light — natural or artificial — into electricity, storing it in an internal rechargeable cell. In practice, you almost never need to think about power; Eco-Drive watches can run for months on a full charge even in the dark.
The market
The sub-£200 solar dress-watch bracket doesn't have many dedicated players. Seiko, Bulova, and Fossil all compete here, but none push the solar angle as consistently as Citizen. The brown/rose gold combination also gives the Rolan AW2113-16X a retro feel that's harder to find in this price range.
For US shoppers, the picture is less straightforward. Citizen Rolan models typically sell for $345–$450 through US retail partners per Gizmochina, making the UK direct price considerably better value. The brown model is confirmed on the Citizen UK site; US availability has not been announced separately.
Citizen has been adding Rolan colourways at a steady clip — salmon and mother-of-pearl versions appeared earlier in 2026 — so this brown variant looks like part of a deliberate quarterly rollout rather than a one-off release.
