Germany demands Apple to disable 'child protection'

German authorities have sent an official letter to Tim Cook demanding that the development of CSAM, designed to protect minors from various abuses, be halted. The source refers to the German media.

Manuel Hoferlin, Chairman of the German Digitalization Committee, wrote an official letter personally to Tim Cook demanding in the harshest terms that the Apple CEO stop using the famous CSAM system and forget about it forever.

Chairman Hoferlin declared Apple's new technology "the greatest and most brutal surveillance tool in the history of mankind." He added that "Apple has taken a very dangerous path" and in doing so could destroy secure and confidential communications. Finally, Mr. Hoferlin warns that otherwise Apple will lose a number of markets. Perhaps this is a hint that a large number of countries may ban the brand in their territory because of this technology.

Editorial gg reminds that Apple intends to launch CSAM this September along with the release of iOS 15. As of now, there are a number of limitations. Initially, the technology will only work in the US and only for users who have enabled the iCloud media library launch option.
