Windows 11 will make it even harder to choose an alternative browser as your primary browser

Over the years, Microsoft has repeatedly incurred the wrath of many users for seeking to force you to use its browser. Starting with XP, 7, 8.1 and 10, Windows has stubbornly insisted that you use the default browser.

In addition to criticism, this behavior has led Microsoft to fines over the years, such as in 2013 when the company was fined a hefty sum of millions of euros by European authorities. However, their behavior will not change in the next version of Windows. Even worse.

Source reports that Microsoft wants to make the process of changing the default browser even more tedious. In the new version of Windows 11, when a user first uses a browser other than Microsoft Edge and forgets to check the "Always use this app" box, it will be quite difficult to change it afterwards.

To opt out of Edge, you'll have to go into settings, select the "Default Applications" section, then specify how specific extensions should open: html, shtml, svg, pdf, etc. - one at a time. As for the widgets, they will completely ignore the user's choice and use Microsoft Edge directly.

The planned changes have predictably not been well received by competitors.
