The first Xiaomi electric cars will roll off the assembly line in 2024

In May this year, Xiaomi announced that it is entering the automotive industry. The company is serious about setting up production of electric cars, and it's taking three years to do so. News has been flashed online from time to time that Lei Jun is looking for a partner to help build the car. To that end, he has visited a number of automakers, but there is no exact information as to whether he was able to reach an agreement with any of them.

But there seems to be tangible progress on the issue. The head of the company, Lei Jun, announced at a meeting with investors that they intend to start mass production of cars in the first half of 2024. So far, the company has registered the Xiaomi Motors brand and the procedure was completed on September 1. The company's first car manufacturing plant will be located in the Beijing suburb of Yizhuang. At the moment, the team of specialists who will develop the cars has 450 people. The best of the best were selected among more than 20,000 applicants.

Lei Jun stressed that the release of an electric car is not a PR stunt. It just so happens that cars have evolved from ordinary means of transportation into smart and technological devices. The emergence of an electric car is another step in building its own ecosystem, where, according to the head of the company, everything is focused on comfort and improving the user experience.

It should be reminded that release of electric car will be the last global project in Lei Jun's career. After its completion, he will be able to leave the post of CEO of Xiaomi.
