Samsung Deutschland offers the user to smash the SSD with a hammer to get a new drive under warranty
The German division of Samsung has decided to take the protection of personal data of its customers to a new level.
Here's What We Know
A German resident purchased a Samsung 980 Pro SSD with a 2TB capacity. While using the Samsung Magician, he found out that the drive was almost non-operational due to memory problems. The user decided to replace the SSD under warranty, but he didn't want Samsung specialists to have even a theoretical opportunity to access the data. The German was unable to delete the files due to a failure in the memory chip.
As a result, a technical support specialist from Samsung Deutschland suggested the user to physically disable the SSD before sending it - to drill or break it with a hammer. The owner of the drive must record this process on video.
Note that the standard practice of SSD replacement involves sending drives without physical damage. For this reason, many private customers and large companies do not change defective disks under warranty, fearing the leakage of confidential data.
