Region locked from Elden Ring DLC - any best vpn for xbox solutions that actually work?

Just rage smashed my controller because apparently being Canadian in Ireland means i can't access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC that I ALREADY PAID FOR. My Xbox account region is tied to my credit card, and now I'm getting "content not available in your region" errors even though I pre-purchased before my work transfer.

Tried calling Xbox support and they basically said "too bad so sad" in corporate speak. Gamesharing with my brother back home failed too. Played 300+ hours and now stuck watching streamers enjoy the content while I get screwed for... checks notes... doing my job in another country?

Anybody figured out workarounds that don't require computer science degrees? Getting desperate enough to try anything at this point.

pretty sure this qualifies as fraud prevention not incompetence - the licensing agreements are tied to regions because of international trade agreements and exchange rates

Bruh moment: buy game in region A → move to region B → game says no → billion dollar company shrugs → customer rage intensifies → solutions exactly zero

Just spoof your IP through American servers? Xbox hardware doesn't care where it physically sits, only what network it connects through. Consumer rights shouldn't evaporate when you cross borders

My grandson set up something called a "smart DNS" for me when I snowbird in Arizona. No VPN needed - just changes the location your Xbox thinks it's in without affecting speed. Can show you screenshots of my settings if helpful!

This happens constantly with global publishing rights. Each country has separate agreements ⊙﹏⊙ workarounds exist but technically violate TOS

absolutely criminal how we normalize this anti-consumer practice. I legally purchased content that magically becomes "unavailable" when I travel? highway robbery

Running custom firmware on a GL.iNet travel router with NordVPN backend. Rock solid for my xbox when hotel-hopping. Basically creates personal bubble that makes devices think they're back home. Been my lifesaver on oil rig rotations where everything gets region-blocked

lmaooooo everyone suggesting expensive tech solutions when you could just make Irish friend and gameshare with them? modern problems require big brain solutions my dude

Seeing lots of misinformation here. Xbox region locks exist because publishers set different release dates and pricing per territory. VPNs sometimes work but risk account flags from rapid IP changes. Not speaking officially, just explaining reality

imagine paying for game ➡️ not being allowed to play game ➡️ considering paying more money to play game you already bought ➡️ corporations winning again 💰👑

Bought my kid xbox games during overseas military deployment. Constant regional headaches. Ended up buying second-hand physical copies whenever possible instead of digital. Antiquated solution but works when license servers get weird

The real issue isn't region blocking but digital rights management verification through Microsoft's proprietary certificate authentication system. Typical consumer vpns won't bypass this properly because the validation occurs at multiple network layers

finally someone who understands network architecture instead of just yelling "vpn fix everything!" kudos for actual technical knowledge

Have you tried turning it off and on again while standing on one foot under a full moon though

Got exact same error last year. Spent 57 hours researching solutions. Wasted $120 on various vpns. End result: nothing worked. Eventually gave up and created new account tied to local region. Sometimes the house always wins

Call microsoft again but with righteous anger of consumer who knows their rights. Worked for me when I was in netherlands - they manually overrode my region block after 3 escalations. Squeaky wheel gets the dlc eh

went through exactly this with fallout expansion pack

dns settings - network - advanced - primary 208.67.222.222 - secondary 208.67.220.220 - restart - worked like magic for me but ymmv
